Marshall County Commission Chairman Doug Fleming is seeking treatments related to two types of cancer.
Fleming recently had a sarcoma tumor removed from his leg.
While doctors were treating him for the sarcoma tumor they also found another type of colon cancer that had metastasized in his liver.

COLUMBUS, Ohio —Thousands of Central Ohioans are remembering Stefanie Spielman Friday, including the staff and doctors at The James Cancer Hospital.
Stefanie, who battled breast cancer for more than a decade, died Thursday at the age of 42.
She passed away at her Upper Arlington home, surrounded by her loving family.

This week two panels of medical experts recommended fewer screening tests for breast and cervical cancer.
And recently, men got similar advice about prostate cancer screening.
The recommendations come from something called evidence-based medicine, and are being met with resistance from some consumer groups and physicians.

Local doctors say the new cervical cancer screening guidelines are a good thing.
Dr. Scott Bailey calls them reasonable.

Dr. Michael Milam, an assistant professor in the division of gynecologic oncology at the University of Louisville, said he supports the new guidelines because they reflect the reality of the disease.
"Cervical cancer takes years to develop and it's uncommon," Milam said, adding that women should talk to their doctors about their particular risk factors.
"Nothing's perfect, but this is a reasonable step-wise progression."

Sunscreen can help reduce the risk of skin cancer, but people forget to apply it.
Now, researchers say, daily text-message reminders could increase usage.
Researchers from the University of California-Davis Health System, in Sacramento, recruited 70 adults and randomly assigned half of them to get text messages that included information about local weather and a reminder to wear sunscreen.

The community is rallying to the aid of a young man facing a battle with cancer by hosting a pub night this Thursday.
Marshall Robertson is a 21-year-old Langley man who had everything going right for him until a nagging headache was finally diagnosed as a brain tumor in September.
He immediately underwent a six-hour surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital under the capable hands of the respected Dr. Chan that removed the tumor from his right side.
